Championship Meet Time!
Hi Killer Whales,
It is championship swim meet time! The swimmers have been working so hard this season and expect the season to end strong.
The warm-ups start at 3pm on Friday and 8am on Saturday. Please be AT THE WEST YMCA, BOISE CITY AQUATIC CENTER (5959 N Discovery Pl, Boise, ID 83713) on time so that we have everyone warming up on time. We only have 1-2 lanes per team for warmups, so it is very important that they are started on time. Please arrive early enough to check in with a coach or board member. Please be aware of where your swimmers are and help them listen for their race numbers and send them at 1st call. Wear your team suit and team cap!
WHAT TO BRING: Swim meets are long but fun! Bring a great attitude, a team attitude. Don't forget: Awning, towels, blanket, extra goggles, SWIM CAP, team suit, camera, water bottles, cooler, camp chairs, Sharpie, sunscreen, book, playing cards, things to do for the kids between events.
As always, no parents or swimmers on deck with exception to volunteers and swimmers called to their events.
Heat Sheets
I do not have a heat sheet yet but will send out as soon as I have. One big difference at this meet is that the heat sheets WILL NOT be available on the app. I know we have all grown accustomed to having the heat sheet loaded to the app prior to the meet. It is a long story, but the timing system does not sync to Swimtopia. That should be fixed and working for next season. That said, the results will be transferred over to the app throughout the meet but there will be a longer delay than normal as it is being done manually. Thanks in advance for your patience with this. When I do send out the heat sheet, that will be what you use so print off if want to reference throughout the meet.
Housekeeping
Below I have laid out the basic "house-keeping" items. The information on the website is always helpful as well.
Swim Meet 101: https://meridiankillerwhales.swimtopia.com/swim-me...
ArmMarking: https://meridiankillerwhales.swimtopia.com/arm-mar...
Parking: the best advice we can give is to pay attention to any signage. There is parking on Discovery available as well. We have been warned that violators will be ticketed and towed. I have attached the most recent information I have on this, but still pay attention to signage in case anything has changed.
Concessions: we will not be running our concessions at this swim meet, but there will be Scotty’s Dogs and Sunnyside Italian Ice available for purchase.
Y-Facility/Restrooms: there is no access to the Y facility, including the locker rooms. There are porta-potties set up outside as opposed to using the Y. Also, there is no food to be brought into the Y-facility.
Set Up and Clean Up
Personal tents and canopies can be set up anytime AFTER 7am on Friday. No personal vehicles will be allowed on the grass. I have attached a map that shows where our team will be set up. Please only set up in our assigned area.
Please clean your areas at the end of each day. It is encouraged to label your belongings. There is not security until 8pm on Friday. You can certainly leave items overnight but the Y and Boise Parks will not be held responsible for any lost or stolen items.
Awards
There are individual heat ribbons after each heat. This is for 1st thru 10th place, so each swimmer should get a heat ribbon after their event.
Overall places have medals for 1st (Gold), 2nd (Silver), and 3rd (Bronze). There are also ribbons for 4th thru 10th. We do not collect these awards until after the meet is completed so we will get these to the families at the end of year party or can pick up from a board member/coach.
Team Sportsmanship: this award is passed along from season to season to the team that displays the best sportsmanship throughout the season. Let’s try and get this award back in Meridian!
One more item to note: at the championship meet, they tend to be stricter on the stroke/turn and as well as false starts. We have been talking to the swimmers about this more, but always helps to have parents re-iterate.
Let's have some fun and swim fast! Go Killer Whales!
